Neuro-emotional technique
Neuro-Emotional Technique recognises that emotions can contribute to physical stress within the body. Examples can include increased heart rate, shaking, breathlessness, sweating, muscle tension, trembling, shaking, crying, light-headedness, and/or nausea. It is a therapy that can be valuable in assisting individuals to identify emotions impacting their capacity to engage in activities of daily living and reduce the intensity of these emotions using muscle testing and gentle touch on specific acupressure points.
From an Occupational Therapy perspective, sessions using this technique will focus on identifying underlying emotions impacting participation in activities of daily living (e.g. sleep, self-care, communication, accessing the community, relationships, social interaction) and reducing the intensity of these emotional stress patterns.
Sessions can vary in length depending on client direction, typically they range from 15 to 60 minutes duration.

Please note, the neuro-emotional technique does not treat or remove the ability to experience emotions. Furthermore, it is not a form of psychotherapy, counseling, psychology, or talk therapy. It is not suitable for persons who are acutely unwell, unable to provide informed consent or communicate. Nil needles are used, only gentle touch or pressure on acupressure points. Appropriate referrals to other allied health practitioners will be recommended and or completed as necessary.
